Counselling and Psychotherapy can offer you a safe and confidential place for you to talk about yourself and your life, in a way you may feel unable to do with those close to you. Therapy offers you the space to think, to feel, to discuss concerns and experiences; leading to a better understanding of self.
My approach to therapy is first and foremost based upon building a positive therapeutic relationship with each client I work with. When the foundation of the counselling relationship has been built upon trust and emotional safety, my hope is that then, the client will be able to move towards personal development, growth and significant change.
Our first one to one meeting will be an assessment or 'getting to know you' session which will last the clinical hour (50 minutes). During this hour, I will ask some questions about your background and current circumstance. We will also discuss what has brought you to therapy and what you may like to use the space for. It is likely that in this meeting, we will decide if you would like to move forward with a therapeutic contract and a suitable timeframe for counselling together. It is also possible that you may want to take some further time to think, before making this commitment.
Once we have arranged our sessions together, this fifty minute appointment will continue on a weekly basis, unless otherwise agreed. Clients can choose to leave therapy themselves. However, it is usual that we will talk about when to conclude counselling, in order to end in a safe and contained way.
